Academy Awards of Alameda

And the Oscar goes to... The Bay Street Babes for hosting yet another wonderful gathering, this time for the Oscars. I think Alisa had the most "fierce" outfit on, although there were a lot of good ones. As pointed out by a person at the party we did come late and leave early, but when you don't know very much about the films, or which ones have great sound mixing, it's hard to watch 14 hours of it. If Bret and I were the Academy, I think these two films would win all of the awards.

Good-Bye My Friend

I was kind of sad to say good-bye to my little car today. I always felt like I was riding around in a little m&m that magically warmed my seat, but I no longer had use for the little guy so it was time to cut ties and let him drive freely on the streets of Oakland. I sold it at the VW dealership and the man who I did my transactions with repeatedly called me "dear" and admonished me when he found out I was Mormon and didn't vote for Romney and made me feel like I had denied my Christianity, but other than that it was a smooth deal and now bret will be on his bike and I'll be driving a mazda nissan maxima sentra, or whatever it is.

I'm not really a car person, and by "not really" i mean I could care less, but those seat warmers really warmed my back and heart. I remember my first encounter with them... my roommate Kat and I, sophomore year of college, decided that we desperatley needed frozen yogurt and had no way of getting there, so I convinced her that if we stood outside of Liberty Square and put our thumbs up certainly someone would come along and help us out. We stood out there ready to go and a nice, probably 24 year old boy picked us up in his VW. I sat in the front seat and the seat warmer must have been on level 5, and had been that way for 3 weeks, because the seat was like sitting on a curling iron with a thin piece of fabric over it, it was soo hot. I had no idea "seat heaters" existed so I didn't say anything and sat with my back as far from the back of the seat for the whole way to the frozen yogurt. I remember when I got my VW and I got in and saw the control for the seat heater, it all made sense.

No Diggity, No Doubt

For Christmas I asked for a jacket and I found that if I spent $20 more dollars then I would get free shipping, so I did the right thing and continued scrolling through urbanoutfitters.com to find the perfect 20 dollar item. I decided that I could rule out any ridiculous shirt/skirt/dress because my need for costume-like clothing has decreased since college and I should get a practical item that could be worn for years to come. and then I found these....

Automatically I thought of FIVE very practical uses for them...
1. To accompany Bret on his 7:50 am commute to work
2. To wear to any 50's,60's,70's,80's or future-themed parties
3. Cheerleading outfitt for bret's basketball game
4. Self Defense. (their hyper-reflective quality in the daytime would surely blind any on-looker)
5. Jumping pictures, need I say more?

Guess Who's Back, Back Again

While scrolling through some recent pictures I had some very fond memories, as well as some not so glorious moments as a Rozier-Baker...

Good Idea:

Bret making me a sign when I got back.

Bad Idea:

Laughing at the short missionary who came over for dinner and got clothes-lined by the yarn on his way out the door.

Good Idea:

Having a Christmas tree this year.

Bad Idea:

Dragging the dead Christmas tree from the family room, through the bedroom and chucking it out the window. I'm still finding pine needles.

Good Idea:

Going to see the people living in trees in Berkeley. They are doing it so that the historic trees won't be cut down to build a weightlifting room, or some type of football oriented facility. They've been up there for 14 months now.

Bad Idea:

The tree people totally ruining the trees

I have more but once again our internet is acting up, so please, stay tuned.

What'll I do

whitneys been out of town for a week now and im already on the brink of insanity. here are some things i do while whitneys gone:

1. make a construction paper chain to count down the days until she returns (when im really bored i make one that counts down the hours)
2. i get really into sports (even golf and tennis start looking very appealing)
3. i actually clean the house (thats when you know im going insane)
4. i place a record on my broken record player, watch the record spin in circles and make weird noises for about 7-9 minutes, and then re-diagnose the record player as broken. repeat 2-3 times.
5. i watch cool hand luke and cry, by myself, at the end.
6. i eat even more trail mix (how that is possible i do not know)
7. i record songs about whitney (check out 'we're gonna get married' HERE

Alameda Caucus

Bret and I aren't super politcal people, but we've been really into watching the debates and reading about the candidates. Usually after watching the debates, we turn off the tv and continue our own debates at home. They are about really important issues such as why did I buy the slow churn vanilla dreyers and not the oreo? I usually state my opinion and bret accuses me of being a flip-floper but I try and explain that I am just an agent for change and that I am looking for the best possible change. We also talk about other important topics concerning the candidates such as...

Why does Ron Paul sound like a grown-up Piglet?

How many times will Giulliani say September 11th and Ronald Reagan?

If these two men look so similar, then why is it that the one running for president is the one that scares me?

If any of you have any political opinions you'd like to share, please... do share.

Modge Podge Blog

Recently I became a substitute teacher, which includes benefits such as: a lunch break long enough for Bret and I to go to AMPM for 32oz.s of Diet Pepsi with a shot of cherry, reading a lot of books while telling the kids to be quiet, being told funny things like I am "kinda pretty", and a work day that ends at 3pm. Although this job is only temporary, I've enjoyed it so far.

The other day I was in a high school computers class and in the middle of class I noticed that one boy was creating quite the ruckus, so I put my book down and went over to investigate. Apparently he had taken a gel insert out of the cushy part of an arm chair (the part that is on the arm rest), and was slapping the ground and the students with it. It looked kind of like one of those sticky hands that you would hold onto one part while slapping your sister or the wall with the other part, if you've ever been to chuckee cheese or playland, you know what Im talking about. Well anyway, I watched him for awhile as he picked things up off the floor with it and slapped other students and I was laughing along with everyone else and after awhile I realized we were in class, and they had assignments and maybe some of the students didnt enjoy being hit was a dirty, sticky gel stick. And then I realized I was the teacher and then I had a beautiful daydream of confiscating the gel insert and taking it home and I could pick things up off of my floor and slap Bret with it. However, I did not take his beautiful toy, but told him to put it in his backpack and made sure no ones feelings were hurt by the sticky slap.

Other than keeping the Alameda angstful teens in line, Bret and I have had a good time in December. Our December has included:

An Andrew Bird Concert

A wonderful christmas party complete with santa and a piano sing-a-long

Bret's work party which included dinner, dancing, and free booze (well, diet coke for us)

Taking the ferry to San Fran

Going to the SF Farmers market and eating at least $100 worth of free samples

Going to the top of Coit tower and trying to throw pennies through the small slits of the windows and drum roll please....

Buying a road bike for a steal of a deal for Bret to ride to work on.

The following pics are from our walking tour of San Francisco and some other stuff...

Persimmons anyone?

You'll have to get through me first.

My dream driveway.

Bret's new commuting partner.

Happy Holidays from the Bret, Whit, and Ted!!

It's Official...

We have connection! After three long months of waiting, Mr. Power and Telecom came and set up the internet for us. Never before have two diamond hoop earings looked so good on a male as they did on him. I wish I would have gotten a picture of Bret and I with him, kissing his cheeks.

It has actually been a week full of excitement. Bret and I were reunited after 2.5 weeks apart, so we did what any young couple would do, we put on matching adidas jackets and went to the second most dangerous city in America to go to costco and get pizza, that's right- Oakland is now #2, take that Compton.

Before I left to Houston, Bret and I went to Monterey and Carmel for my birthday. Here are some picture highlights...

We ate pizza in monterey, climbed trees on the beach, ran down a huge sand hill, and a lot of other really grown up things. When we got back to Alameda we decided to end the day with two gallons of ice cream and it came up when we went to the cashiers that it was my birthday so Gwendolyn the check-out lady announced my birthday over the intercom and when she was finished the man from the bakery got on the loud speaker and rapped 50 cent's "Go shorty it's your birthday," I couldn't have imagined a better day.
